Sep 10    “Life & Legacy,” a special presentation about George Rodrigue by Wendy Rodrigue
On September 10, 2018, Neal Auction Company will host “Life & Legacy,” a special presentation honoring one of New Orleans’ most beloved artists, George Rodrigue (1944-2013). For this unique event, Wendy Rodrigue – the artist’s wife, model, muse, and business partner – will examine original paintings from Neal Auction’s upcoming Major Fall Estates Auction (Sept. 15-16) as well as artwork from Rodrigue’s own archives and the couple’s private collection. In 2017, Wendy began a statewide tour in which she shared original artwork and personal insights from her life with George Rodrigue. Originally conceived as a statewide education project focused on arts integration throughout Louisiana A+ Schools, the “Life & Legacy” tour will expand this fall to include schools, museums, and other venues nationwide. Neal Auction’s “Life & Legacy” event will be followed by a signing of Wendy’s book, The Other Side of the Painting (UL Press). Proceeds from the book sales will benefit the arts in education programs of the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts. Wendy’s blog “Musings of an Artist’s Wife” remains the primary source for biographical information about George Rodrigue and the history of his work. www.wendyrodrigue.com Neal Auction Company is considered the leading auctioneer of the American South. www.nealauction.com

The program consists of five key areas of development: MarketHER (Marketing); LeadHER (Leadership & Management); AdaptHER (Best Practices in Resource Management); GrowHER (Global Business Expansion and Opportunities); FinanceHER (creating pathways to increased access to capital and other resources.) The overall program seeks to help Women-Owned Business Enterprises (WBEs): stabilize and grow operations; create and/or maintain jobs for local residents; and contribute to the overall economic growth of Orleans Parish and surrounding communities.

Did you know? In Louisiana, WBEs comprise over 36% of all businesses. However, they earn just 3% of total receipts, and 91% of these businesses have no employees. Share this event on Facebook and Twitter. We hope you can make it!

Sep 20    Violence, Shootings & Safety: Considerations for Your Safety Plan

We’ve all seen the headlines recently. Violent acts can strike anywhere, anytime, and no business or industry is immune. Keeping your staff, customers, and facility safe through the unexpected should be a top priority. Join us as we discuss real life events, lessons learned, factors to consider in your planning, and insurance coverages that may respond to certain scenarios.

According to OSHA, nearly 2 million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence each year, and the cost associated with such tragedies is estimated at 4 billion dollars annually. In addition to the threat of injury or death, workplace violence can take a toll on the workplace through property damage, lost sales, decreased business, increased absenteeism, turnover, high stress levels, decreased productivity, damaged morale, increased workers’ comp claims, costs related to post-incident counseling, and negligence claims.

This thought-provoking discussion will assist you in thinking through scenarios that can happen on your premises. Although this seminar will benefit those in many industries and positions, it will be most useful to those in the hospitality or property management industries or to any facilities with a large number of employees or customers on-site.

Sep 20    An Evening with Harry Connick, Jr. and Jill Connick
An Evening with Harry Connick, Jr. and Jill Connick Date: September 20, 2018 Time: 6:00 pm-8:00 pm Location: House of Blues Information: On September 20, Harry Connick, Jr. and Jill Connick will host Louisianans for an educational, entertaining and inspirational evening out at the House of Blues from 6 – 8 p.m. The event is free of charge, but space is limited and restricted to individuals whose registration is confirmed via New50.com/NewOrleans.* Why are Harry and Jill coming to New Orleans? As ambassadors for The New 50 public awareness campaign to educate people 50 and older on colon cancer and early detection, Harry and Jill are travelling the country to share their own experience with cancer, and encourage others to take colon cancer screening seriously. Currently, approximately 35 million people across the nation are not current with screening. In fact, one-third of adults age 50 and older in Louisiana are not getting screened as recommended. The event aims to make a difference in those numbers as 90 percent of colon cancers can be treated if detected early. Joining Harry and Jill to discuss myths and facts around colon cancer and the importance of knowing your screening options will be a healthcare provider and a local colon cancer survivor. For each registered individual that attends the event, a $5 donation will be given to Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Fight CRC, and The Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation to support colon cancer research and advocacy. Why attend? Attendees will learn critical information about taking charge of their health while also enjoying a memorable evening out! A few event highlights include: • Q&A with Harry and Jill • Celebration of the new 50-year-olds in attendance • Opportunity to join Harry and Jill on stage for the New 50 #ScreenWithMe Challenge • Surprise guest appearances • Hors d’oeuvres and desserts • Opportunity to be chosen for after-show meet and greet with Harry and Jill, with photos But that’s not all! Harry and Jill will host the “Wellness Wins Circle” where they will grant some lucky winners wishes to stay well after 50! The event is sponsored by Exact Sciences and supported by The New 50 campaign partners: Colorectal Cancer Alliance, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. We hope that you, too, will join us! * All registrations for this event, including those referenced above, must be confirmed in advance via New50.com/NewOrleans. The event is not open to health care professionals, as defined in the AdvaMed Code of Ethics, due to restrictions on providing entertainment to such individuals as set forth in that Code.

New Orleans Chamber and Entrepreneurs' Organization Present:
Third Quarter Business Luncheon

Keynote Speakers: Drs. Peter & Susan Glaser

Navigating Challenging Conversations:
BreakThrough Conflict

Drs. Peter & Susan Glaser (Click Photo for Bio)

One issue confronts all entrepreneurs: What do you do when you don’t agree with key stakeholders — and walking away isn't an option? How can you create thought partners from adversaries? Innovators understand that conflict can lead to growth and prevent a business from becoming stale, but that only happens when business leaders discover how to navigate through life’s deadlocks, and create agreement from discord. Even with the best of intentions, many of us react automatically and emotionally, making communication blunders that take a toll on our professional and personal lives.

The groundbreaking work of Drs. Glaser offers evidence-based, tangible skills for turning high stakes conversations into solved problems, strengthened relationships and deepened trust. Learn how to turn conflict into a tool for innovation and growth — especially when emotions are high and the outcome is important. The goal: enhanced productivity, interpersonal cohesion and financial performance.

Based on 40 years of international award-winning research, the Glasers present pragmatic models, including how to raise delicate issues, to convince without being overbearing, and to constructively resolve conflict. Their refreshingly clear approach features flexible guidelines and progressive steps to develop and sustain strong positive relationships—and, when necessary, to repair damaged ones.

The Glasers’ presentation style is unique. Former actors as well as award winning researchers and university professors, the Glasers utilize their dramatic skills to recreate compelling conflict scenarios.

This program offers concrete skills and tools to transform conflict into solved problems, strengthened relationships, and deepened trust.

What is Entrepreneurs' Organization?
While you wear the badge of an entrepreneur with pride, most people don't understand the sleepless nights, the sense of disconnection from your team, and a feeling that you are doing it all by yourself. As an entrepreneur, it can be lonely at the top ... but it doesn't have to be. In 1987, a handful of successful entrepreneurs founded EO to give younger entrepreneurs a safe and secure forum to connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs so they could share their experiences and support each other. 25 years later, EO has grown into nearly 9,000 members worldwide.
