Oct 17    OCD Louisiana Community Meeting
OCD Louisiana, the local affiliate of the International OCD Foundation, is hosting a community meeting to generate ideas about the resources we need in Louisiana. For those looking to become involved in the non-profit, we will also be forming initial committees to spearhead projects. The mission of our group is to provide assistance to those affected by obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders. We are early in the development of the Louisiana affiliate. We aim to provide education, resources, and support to the local community to increase access to effective treatment and promote awareness about OCD and related disorders. We hope to develop a community for those affected by OCD and related disorders and the professionals who treat them. Like our parent organization, OCD Louisiana is a donor-supported nonprofit organization run by volunteers. Our organization is open to anyone impacted by or interested in OCD, Hoarding Disorder, Trichotillomania (Hair-Pulling Disorder), Excoriation (Skin-Picking) Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and other related disorders. We welcome individuals who suffer from one of these conditions, their family members and friends, mental health professionals, researchers, educators, religious leaders, and/or other interested community members.

Oct 20    OCD Louisiana Community Meeting

Oct 22    Nailed It Film Screening
Visit any strip mall in the United States, and there’s bound to be a Vietnamese nail salon. While ubiquitous in cities across the country, few Americans know the history behind the salons and the 20 Vietnamese refugee women, who in 1975, sparked a multibillion dollar industry that supports their community to this day. Weaving powerful personal stories with insightful interviews, Nailed It, a new documentary by director Adele Free Pham, captures an unforgettable and often hilarious saga born of tragedy, charting the rise, struggle, stereotypes, and steady hold Vietnamese Americans have on today’s multiethnic $8 billion dollar nail economy. Join filmmaker Adele Pham for this free screening and discussion on Monday October 22nd at 6:30pm at The Ranch Theatre inside the Contemporary Arts Center as part of the 29th Annual New Orleans Film Festival.
