What Small Business Owners Should STOP Doing to Stay Sane
The key to a thriving business is growing profit or the bottom line, not just sales. What if business owners could stop doing unprofitable activities, work less—and make more money?
This webinar, presented by professor, author and speaker Dawn Fotopulos, will identify four key areas where the business owner can shift priorities to improve profitability almost right away—while relieving time burden from their daily activities.
She will explain why and how you should STOP:
- Ignoring your financial statements - Learn the basics of reading your profit and loss statement.
- Offering loss leader products or services - Find out how to identify profitable products and services
- Over-servicing unprofitable customers - Understand who are your profitable and unprofitable customers
- Ignoring existing customers - Power profits are generated from existing relationships, not new customers. Learn how to grow your high-potential existing customer base to relieve the burden of new customer acquisition.

EVENT IS SOLD OUT.

Join us for an educational seminar with the American Marketing Association:
Social Media in the Wild
Social media is a platform we have a love-hate relationship with; for all the emotional ups and downs, it is here to stay. We're hooked because of how it intertwines with our lives, deepends our connections to others, and opens up our world. In our era of conspicuous consumption, we package adventures and experiences to share with out friends, family, and followers. In that process, we have also dramatically altered the built environment of our cities to meet our aesthetic desires.
This fast-paced, highly visual, case-study-driven conversation will show how the behaviors of millenials have drastically impacted our business ecosystem, summarizing how new-age social media intersects with human psychology, decision making & strategic planning. Delivered from a millennial with award-winning research expertise, the conversation will demystify this phenomena by having concrete take-aways of how to best represent your business online in order to capitalize on the attention economy through leveraging various mobile apps, marketing visibility hacks & strategic business plans.
Presented by:

Sally Lindsay
Manager, Business Development & Strategy - New Orleans Business Alliance

Sally moved to New Orleans as part of the startup-oriented Venture for America fellowship. She is a Business Development Strategist at the New Orleans Business Alliance focusing on bio, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. She is inspired to transform her research into practical consulting services that help demystify the evolving future of the social media city, organic marketing, new consumer behaviors, and the built environment. If Paid Search Isn't Working, You're Probably Doing It Wrong | Tips to Leverage Strategy, Structure & Spend to Drive Results
Most people that have attempted (and some who have decided to no longer dabble) in the exciting world of paid search or display ads to drive business will be quick to tell you how “it didn’t work”. The follow-up question to that should be “What exactly didn’t work?”. There are a number of nuances that can go wrong when it comes to bidding on search terms or buying display space; but for those that know the rules, it can be very successful to be seen by those looking for what your business has to offer.
Join us to learn about build-out, budget and best practices (with a side of light breakfast) as Adele Tiblier, Chief Marketing Officer of Story Block, presents tips and action items to help you make the most of your paid search efforts. Whether you’re just getting started or already putting money toward it, invest a little time to get a real return on your ad spend.
Presentation will touch on:
-
Paid search strategy specifically around goals, expectations, messaging and targeting
-

-
Opportunities to assess spend and lower without impacting valuable clicks or conversions

Women Making Waves 2019
On Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23, the Tulane Alumni Association will host their annual women’s leadership conference, Women Making Waves. In its fifth year, the conference will be held in the Qatar Ballroom of the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life on Tulane’s Uptown Campus. Tickets are $75 for general admission. Online registration and additional information, including a full conference agenda, is available at wmw.tulane.edu. The conference is open to the public, regardless of affiliation with Tulane. The conference provides an opportunity to network with women from across the region and to be inspired by sessions facilitated by leading women within the Tulane community — including a keynote by Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans. “It’s powerful to see such a diverse group of women building meaningful connections and learning from one another,” says Nicole Bush, director of alumni career services and organizer of the women’s leadership conference. “By taking part in Women Making Waves, attendees not only create opportunities for each other but also create a support system to help each other along the way.” With a focus on “The Power of Engagement,” the conference includes a welcome reception Friday evening and a full slate of education sessions on Saturday with topics including how engagement contributes to your career, time management strategies, and how to turn personal interests into business opportunities. Networking opportunities are available throughout the day. Friday’s welcome reception begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Saturday begins with breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 2:30 p.m. Sponsors for this year’s conference include the CFA Society of Louisiana, Young Leadership Council (YLC), Newcomb College Institute, Newcomb Alumnae Association, Elizabeth Clark, and Fidelity Bank P.O.W.E.R.

Saints & Sinners LGBTQ Literary Festival
The Festival celebrates this city’s longstanding attraction for LGBTQ writers, and offers established and emerging authors, as well as students and readers, the opportunity to network and nurture their craft—and let the good times roll in true New Orleans fashion. SAS offers two full days’ worth of panel discussions, with topics ranging from publishing and marketing to retrospectives on the LGBTQ movement. Our reading series also takes place both days featuring nearly fifty writers including new voices and literary icons. Panel topics at #SAS19 include: “Sex and the Law: Hands Up and Off”; “Queer Literary Hook-Ups: Gauging the Impact”—a discussion of LGBTQ forerunners whose creations shed light on a historically silenced and misrepresented minority group’s experience; as well as discussions on creative nonfiction, poetry, Desire & Spirituality, and the effect that relocation has on a writer personally and creatively.
