The Reluctant Dragon
The Story Road Project, the outreach wing of Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane and the Newcomb Department of Music, presents THE RELUCTANT DRAGON, an original musical by Ricky Graham, Fred Palmisano & Jefferson Turner. Based on the Kenneth Grahame story, The Reluctant Dragon is the tale of Amos, a gentle dragon who’d rather sing and write songs than be the murderous monster the local villagers assume. It takes the ingenuity of a local youngster (with the help of St. George!) to set the record straight. With its message of tolerance and acceptance, The Reluctant Dragon is especially relevant for today’s audience. Appropriate for ages 5 and up.

Renewable Portfolio Standard Symposium
What is a renewable portfolio standard? At their core, renewable portfolio standard –also known as renewable energy standards or RPS – are laws that require a certain percentage of a state’s electricity consumption to be generated by renewable resources. In most cases, an RPS passes through state legislative bodies before being signed by governors, meaning they are less susceptible to changes in state administrations. As a result, renewable portfolio standards are an example of states leveraging long-term policy stability in order to help grow the renewable energy industry locally. How many states have RPS? Twenty-nine states, Washington, D.C., and three territories have adopted an RPS, while eight states and one territory have set renewable energy goals. ------------LUNCH WILL BE SERVED --------- ---------------ALL ARE WELCOME------------- Join us as we work collaboratively towards an equitable & resilient energy future for New Orleans. *************************************************** YOUR HOSTS:: Alliance for Affordable Energy / Tulane Law School / 350 New Orleans / Audubon Louisiana / Union of Concerned Scientists / Vote Solar/ Deep South Center for Environmental Justice / Posigen / Gulf States Renewable Energy Industries Association / Casey DeMoss / Greater New Orleans Foundation Agenda to follow. The Pillowcase Project
Join High Voltage and the American Red Cross on Saturday, June 22 from 1:00- 2:00 p.m. at the Nora Navarre Library for the Pillowcase Project. Created in New Orleans, The Pillowcase Project was inspired by the story of local university students carrying their belongings in pillowcases during Hurricane Katrina evacuations. Through the program, the Red Cross aims to empower children to prepare themselves, their households, and their communities for emergencies. This is a free interactive preparedness program designed for youth ages 8 to 11 and offered by Red Cross chapters to youth in schools, after-school programs, and at other sites and events. The program aims to increase awareness and understanding of natural hazards, teach safety and emotional coping skills, as well as the importance of personal preparedness. Through instructor-led presentations, students learn the best ways to stay safe, how to handle stressful situations, and what tools they can use at home to prepare for emergencies. Students also have the opportunity to decorate and personalize their own pillowcases, which serve as containers for a personal emergency supplies kit, and are encouraged to share what they’ve learned with friends and family. The curriculum meets many of the Common Core State Standards for grades 3-5. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-pillowcase-project-tickets-60942212799?aff=ebdssbdestsearch
