Feb 16 - May 10    Mystery and Benevolence: Masonic and Odd Fellows Folk Art
The traveling exhibition Mystery and Benevolence: Masonic and Odd Fellows Folk Art, curated by the American Folk Art Museum, showcases more than 80 intriguing and captivating objects, ranging from grave markers and serpent-headed staffs to embroidered textiles and ceremonial regalia. Recalling the golden age of American secret societies, the exhibition focuses on two fraternal brotherhoods, the Freemasons and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which have deep historical roots in America. The art associated with these fraternal practices is both mystical and evocative, often displaying an element of strangeness. It is rich in symbols that are simultaneously familiar and uncommon. Delving into the cryptic symbols and hieroglyphs used in the ceremonies and ritualized performances of these brotherhoods, Mystery and Benevolence unravels the histories of the Freemasons and the Odd Fellows. The folk art displayed in Mystery and Benevolence serves as a testament to the enduring allure of their clandestine rituals.

Apr 6    Spring Fiesta Parade, Promenade & Gala
April 6, 2024 Parade, Promenade in Jackson Square and Gala Unique Opportunity to Ride in the Parade Members and non-members have the opportunity to rent a horse-drawn carriage and ride in the annual Spring Fiesta Parade. The Spring Fiesta's annual horse-drawn carriage parade rolls through the historic Vieux Carré. The Queen and King and their attendants, in full Court dress, and lovely ladies and gentlemen in stylish spring attire, give flowers to onlookers as the parade winds to the cotillion Gala for "A Night in Old New Orleans." The New Orleans Spring Fiesta Association is pleased to announce the newest element of the parade, Les Beaux Chapeaux. (See below for more information.) Antique cars and a New Orleans Jazz band complete the beautiful spectacle. It is necessary for parade participants to purchase 250 no-thorn flowers to be handed out, not thrown, to parade-goers. Line up occurs at the Spring Fiesta Townhouse at 826 St. Ann St. at 1:30pm to load the carriages for the parade to commence at 2:00 pm. Tickets available at SpringFiestaNola.com Les Beaux Chapeaux: Join New Walking Group in the Parade The New Orleans Spring Fiesta Association is excited to announce the newest element of the Spring Fiesta Parade, Les Beaux Chapeaux. This lively walking corps, composed of NOSFA members, takes its inaugural stroll through the historic French Quarter in the 2024 parade. Dressed in elegant attire to rival Ascot and the Kentucky Derby, members sashay through the Vieux Carré as they wave to the crowd, blow bubbles if so inclined, and enjoy giving flowers to observers along the route. Entire families enjoy the fun with little ones in their spring bonnets, dapper ensembles, and baby prams adorned with spring posies and lovely ribbons. Be part of the Spring Fiesta Parade in Les Beaux Chapeaux brigade! Invite friends and neighbors to join your sojourn, which can culminate in a grand evening, the Cotillion Gala, A Night in Old New Orleans. We invite all to attend the cotillion at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel. A Night in Old New Orleans Cotillion Gala The New Orleans Spring Fiesta Court members are honored for their dedication, and that of their families, to the community and The New Orleans Spring Fiesta Association. The New Orleans Spring Fiesta Cotillion Gala is a magical evening when young ladies are presented at court, and young gentlemen take their places alongside them. The Queen, an accomplished young lady, and the King, a gentleman whose commitment to service is well established, reine over their court and subjects at a grande ball. The Cotillion begins with guests arriving for cocktails, dressed in black tie attire, to the elegant Josephine Bonaparte Salon at the Omni Royal Orleans hotel in the historic Vieux Carré. Soon thereafter, the ball commences, and guests enjoy a traditional Cotillion as it has been conducted for generations. The presentation of the Court of the King and Queen of the 88th Spring Fiesta Celebration in the Grand Salon is followed by dinner and dancing; everything coalesces, creating une Soirée Magnifique. Tickets are available at SpringFiestaNola.com. For additional information and questions, please contact us at SpringFiestaNola.com or email NewOrleansSpringFiesta@yahoo.com. NOSFA appreciates your friendship and support. Your generous contributions support our important work of historic cultural preservation of the Vieux Carré, New Orleans, and Louisiana. 504-581-1367.
